| Verrazano Narrows Series (400 paintings) |
| These 4"x6" plein air seascapes were begun in January 2008. The main focus was the point where the sky and water met, with no land separating them. The paintings began as a daily practice but, as the work progressed, it became less about making these observations daily and more about the way light reflected on the water. As the seasons progressed, the position of the sun at a certain time of day changed; light and reflections changed; weather conditions changed; schedules changed. A few of the paintings were done at night. The series spans two years from January 2008 through February 2010 with some spaces. The whole project, which did not start out as a project, provided a great appreciation for the changing light of the hours and the seasons. There are 400 paintings in the series. |
